For a better sleep

Keywords:sleep,sleep problems,
Many Americans are having difficulties falling asleep at night. Instead of sleeping and dreaming they roll around in their beds trying to fall asleep. The result usually is people not rested enough in the morning and tired all day. This results in stress and less performance on the job or at home. We have developed a list of 6 powerful tips that have helped us to achieve better sleep.
1) Room temperature: Keeping the temperature in your bedroom at 70 degrees Fahrenheit or below is recommended. Too often an overheated bedroom is causing sleep problems. Scientific studies show that the body can better relax with temperatures at 70 degrees or slightly below.
2) Reduce caffeine. A recent study showed that caffeine is not metabolized efficiently and fast enough at night. The effects of caffeine last much longer than most people expect. The result is difficulty falling asleep. Studies have shown better sleeping patterns if no more caffeine is consumed after 6.00 PM.
3) Avoid alcohol. Alcohol will keeps the body from reaching the deeper stages of sleep, where the body does most of its healing and resting. The result of drinking can be a very light sleep or difficulty falling asleep in general.
4) Beds are for sleeping. If you are used to watch TV in bed or even work while being in bed, you may find it much harder to relax and to fall asleep. Remove the TV and do not work in bed. Sleep requires your brain to slowly shutdown and any distraction will cause sleeping problems.
5) Go to bed at around the same time every day. Don't change your bedtime back and forth. Having a certain schedule developed it will be easier to fall asleep pretty much at the same time every day. A recurring schedule will help your body to get into a sleep pattern and make it easier to fall asleep.
6) Remove the alarm clock from your view. Starring at the time will only create the feeling that you have to sleep, but you are not. These worries will make things even worse. Losing the feeling for time by not seeing the actual and how long you have been awake has shown to improve healthy sleep.

3 Advice to sleep tonight

Keywords:sleep deprivation, sleep disorders, insomnia
Picture this: It's 5:27 PM. You're hungry after a busy day at work, itching to get home to see your family, and now you're stuck in traffic. Frustration sets in. But you're used to it since this is an every day occurrence.
So you finally stroll into your house at 6:04 PM, your 2 young children are clamoring for your attention, and they're hungry too. You pop some frozen dinners in the microwave knowing full well they're not healthy, but also knowing that you just don't have time to think, much less cook. After a quick dinner consisting of Salisbury Steak you're day's not even close to over.
Now it's time to do laundry, read with the kids, and of course a day's work left over from the office. When do you have time to rest? At night you keep telling yourself.
But every night it's the same old story. You flop into bed past 1 AM and close your eyes. Your mind is still racing from the day that just passed and the busy day ahead. So you toss and turn, hoping that you'll be able to get at least a little shut-eye before your 6:00 AM wake up call (an annoyingly loud alarm clockyou've had for 15 years).
And the next day it starts all over again. You're tired at work, you don't have time to eat, you're stressed, and you can't get out of the vicious cycle.
So what do you do?
First thing's first: take a deep breath. You're probably stressed out just reading this far.
To get a more restful sleep tonight do the following:
1) Get a notebook and take 5 minutes right before laying down to free write. What you want to do is get every thought from the past, present, and future out of your head and on paper where it's safe and secure. This will free the clutter from your head and allow you to rest easier.
2) Get a new alarm clock that wakes you up gradually with classical music. This will do absolute wonders for your morning routine. What you want to do is set the alarm to go off 15-20 minutes earlier than you usually wake up. It will turn on very quietly and slowly bring you out of your slumber.
3) Add a few very healthy snacks to your daily routine. One of my favorites is a 2 oz pre-packaged bag of baby carrots. They taste good, they're good for you, and they take no prep-time. When you're hungry at work or on the way home, munch on these. Another great snack is raw almonds. Eating healthier worksamazingly well to help you sleep better.
Please use these 3 simple tips to enjoy a more restful sleep tonight.

Drink more water

After a little research it is apparent that nobody really knows where the saying that you need to drink 8 cups of water per day comes from. Some people trace it back to a study in the 1980's, and other people claim that doctors starting telling people that amount because it was a good goal, but didn't have any scientific research to back it up with.
Either way, the point is clear, water does wonders for your body, and your brain. Water is well known to cleanse your body of harmful chemicals through your intestines and also throughout your urine tract. Without proper water intake, our bodies break down very quickly, in a matter of days. Without food, however, some people can live for a week or two. That just shows how important water is to our bodies.
Here are 3 quick tips for taking in more water.
1. Always have water available.
I like to buy the 12 ounce bottles of water and keep them in the fridge. Whenever I go to the gym I grab a bottle. On my way out the door to work, I grab a bottle. Before a trip that will be 30 minutes or longer, I grab a bottle. When I watch a movie, I grab a bottle.
Whenever I am sitting watching TV or a movie, I will keep the bottle in my hand with the lid off. I take a lot of little sips until the bottle is gone. A great way of making sure you drink more water is to make sure it is easily accessible.
2. Keep it cold.
I don't know many people who like to drink room temperature water, I sure don't. If you keep your water cold, you will drink more. I make sure there is always ice in my freezer, this make it very easy to have a cold glass of water anytime.
3. Chose water in restaurants.
Whenever I go out to eat, I always drink water with some lemon. The lemon adds a little spunk to the taste and the water is always nice, cold and refreshing. After a short time you will stop craving your old drink of choice and will begin to appreciate the taste, or lack of taste, that water provides.
Give water a shot and your body will be thankful!

With the New Year now upon us, it's important to give pause and consider making some positive changes regarding the state of your health. As they say, there’s no time like the present. People the world over often make resolutions to do something to better themselves in the coming year. In 2006, consider doing something that will benefit your overall health. The following suggestions may just help to ensure that you’re able to make New Year’s resolutions for many years to come.
Get a Check-up - An excellent place to start when considering lifestyle changes is with an honest assessment of your health. At this stage, it wouldn't hurt to consult with your physician. Why not make an appointment for your annual physical exam? This way, you can begin the year with an accurate assessment of your physical state. Your doctor will be able to focus your attention on areas that are of immediate health concern. This is especially important if you’re a smoker, if you’re overweight, or if you have any significant health issues that might prevent you from performing simple daily tasks.
Drink More Water - Make another profound difference to your health by consuming more water. Many people make the mistake of assuming that they’ve received enough water from the various pop, coffee and other beverages they’ve consumed in a day. This is not entirely accurate. Ideally, one should consume upwards of eight, 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Water helps the body metabolize stored fats. It can also help your body cleanse itself of free radicals, which have been linked to cancer and other such ailments.
Get Moving - Exercise is yet another effective way to maintain optimal health. That’s not to say that one has to become entirely committed to working out each and every day, but it’s in every individual’s best interest to perform some form of activity 3 times per week. Physical exercise can be performed in a wide variety of ways to keep it fun and interesting. For instance, the simple act of walking is a highly effective form of exercise. It’s one that can be completed without supervision, without props, and without any previous experience working out. Joining a gym has a number of direct benefits as well. Not only will you have access to some excellent equipment, but you will also benefit greatly from the fitness knowledge that most personal trainers possess.
Pay Attention to Nutrition - Diet also plays a significant role is one's overall health. Everyone should be familiar with the dietary guidelines established by the leading health agencies and authorities. The "food pyramid" is by far the most popular set of published nutritional guidelines. The food pyramid advises people to include all of the major food groups - grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy and meat (or protein) - in their diets. Keep in mind that the food pyramid is merely a nutritional guideline. The dietary needs of each individual will vary drastically, and what’s ideal for one person isn’t necessarily ideal for the next.
By following these few simple suggestions, you can take control of your health and your life . Good luck!

Drinking water

You can barely make it through a day without hearing or reading some piece of warning or advice about your health. Our society is obsessed with all of the latest fads and techniques for doing as little as possible and eating as much as you want while maintaining the body of a supermodel. There are so many diets and health plans that can be found on the internet or in any magazine that it becomes easy after a while to simply ignore everything you read. For the most part, many of the warnings and pieces of advice you see could be safely ignored without any serious effects on your life. One piece of advice, however, that you cannot afford to ignore is about drinking water.
Drinking water is one the most simple, easy to follow, and most necessary pieces of health advice that you'll ever hear. Take the advice seriously. Drinking water is absolutely essential to your life for a variety of reasons. Because our bodies are made up of such a high percentage of water in the first place, it only makes sense that drinking water would benefit our bodies in great ways.
Drinking water is a great way to purify our bodies from many of the toxins and impurities that make their way into our systems with each meal we eat and through the air we breathe each moment. There is no better way to consistently cleanse your body and keep your digestive system moving than by drinking water each day.
There are a wide range of suggestions out there about how much water you should drink each day. The easiest and best method I have discovered is to take your current weight and divide it in half. This is your magic number of ounces for drinking water each day. So, for example, a woman weighing 150 pounds should drink the number that is half her weight, or 75, in ounces of water each day.
Sound impossible? Drinking water may be hard at first if you aren't used to it. Begin by finding yourself a large water bottle that holds a significant amount of ounces in it. Fill it up each morning and carry it with you during the day. When you get thirsty, opt for drinking water rather than choosing your favorite soda or coffee as a beverage. The more you begin to drink water, the more that your body will crave it. The process of getting enough onces into your body will become a habit in no time.
There are many other great reasons to start drinking water. But, if you're like me, you've already heard them all at least ten times. All that is left for you to do is follow the advice you heard just this one time. Start drinking water for your health. You're body will thank you.

Forgive myself

This may sound a bit odd coming from me, but I believe that regardless of what you eat - how many times each week you exercise or what particular diet you decide to try - if you do not have your inner life in order, it will be difficult to be at peace with yourself and your body.
In discussing ways to love your body, therefore, it is important to look at ways we can have peace with ourselves. Moreover, in this article, we will discuss an idea you may not have considered: forgiveness.
The Past Is The Past, Let It Go:
The most important process we can undertake for our health and well being is to make a conscious effort not to leave negative energy embedded in the past. In effort to move into present time, and be at one with our own body, it becomes essential to let go of all the hurts and struggles that have led us to this moment. There is only one road to this state of oneness, however: The act of letting go.
As it turns out, I'm not the only one who stands by the belief system of releasing the past in effort to improve the health of our minds, as well as our body and spirit. Carolyn Myss in her healing lecture series: Why People Don't Heal, makes the claim that forgiveness is the #1 way to move forward in health. And she can back it up. She has used the healing process of letting go to transform people from near death to glowing health. With this in mind then, ask yourself: Is there anyone or anything from my past which prevents me from moving forward? Said differently: is there something in your past that's holding you back?
Learn To Forgive Others, The Process:
This brings us to the next step in our progress of releasing the past: learning to forgive others. Keep in mind, most often others say and do things as a result of how they are feeling about themselves. In most cases, whether they are aware of it or not, unhealthy individuals inflict their wounds upon us to salve their own pain. This can no longer affect us if we make a full effort to do as Don Miguel Ruiz says in his book The Four Agreements, and "not take things personally." When we do take things personally, we really could gather up a lifetime of emotional baggage.
As it pertains to body image and self-esteem, however, is there anyone you need to forgive? Has someone knowingly or unknowingly inflicted a negative body view onto you? Here's my personal example: When I was in high school, I had a "friend" who was popular, pretty and blonde. As an introvert and troubled youth, I took everything most personally. Imagine my emotional baggage when any time I would so much as mention my interest in a particular boy, she'd make sure she would go out of her way to get his interest.
Needless to say our friendship wasn't long term. And later I learned she was living in an unstable home. Yet, when I was younger, her actions just plain hurt my feelings and gave me a negative self image. Now I realize my insecurities at the time were my wounds to heal, and once I'd forgiven her and not taken her actions personally, I could move forward without holding on to past insecurity.
Learn To Live In the Present, An Exercise:
When we can learn to let go of the past and live fully in the present, we are also growing. After all, how could we grow if we have negative energy lodged in the past? Moreover, there are many other active ways to learn to live in the present. Begin the process by taking a current inventory of your body. I like to do this by using my journal (you do have a journal, don't you?)
Here's how it works:
• Take a scan of your body. First take body part by body part and make a note of what you are happy about. Ask yourself: What do I love about me? At first this may seem awkward, but I cannot stress the importance of taking time to spend time with your self and learning to know "you."
• After you've noted all the positive aspects of your self, make note of those parts you'd like to change. Keep in mind your boundaries - are these changes within your control? If so, make notes to yourself as to how you may go about making a change for the better. If changes are out of your control - take time every day to consciously send love to those parts of your body. When ever possible, tell your mind that you accept your body and your self for who you are, right now.
• When you've finished, take a look at your list. What can you do right now that would make you love a part of yourself? Consider this your permission slip: Today take time to do something good for yourself. Better yet, walk to the phone right now and make an appointment to do something for your self. My favorite self-love activities? Here's a couple suggestions. Ladies: A manicure or pedicure? Gentlemen: A massage?
Today, take time to focus on all of your positive qualities. Make an effort to forgive the past and move into the present moment. Prepare to grow!
Journal Entries:
Make note: What do I love about myself? What can I do for myself this week that is "just for me"?

Quit smoking today

0
Keywords:smoking

Smoking harms the health of the body, and kills the skin and teeth and gums, and cause cancer and cause disease in the heart and lungs, we should allow smoking now because it destroys our lives and our bodies.

There are many who consider smoking to be one of the filthiest, least healthy habits a person can have. The typical non-smoker finds cigarette smoke distasteful at best, disgusting at worst. There are also a number of side effects that smoking can have on the body which are damaging, particularly in the long-run. The fact that second-hand smoke does even more damage to non-smokers than it does to smokers does nothing to endear the habit to anyone. However, aside from the obvious respiratory and circulatory repercussions, there are other problems that are associated with smoking. Owing to the close proximity of the gums to the smoke caused by the habit, smokers now make up 50% of people with gum disease in the world.
Smoking has been known to slow the healing process of the body, particularly after surgical procedures. This is especially true for orthodontic and dental surgery, which delve into the areas that receive the most direct exposure to tobacco and nicotine. Damage on the gums was originally found to have been aggravated by smoking, accelerating the rate of decay of the gums and teeth. It was later found that it was possible to have no previous dental damage at all and still suffer from the side effects of smoking, because the smoke itself can cause cellular decay in the gums. Another, recently discovered problem is that the smoke slowly undoes any repairs done to the gums through surgery.
Aside from these issues, there are also a number of other problems that smoking can cause the mouth, teeth, and gums. Plaque, for example, becomes significantly harder to clean off. It is unknown what exactly causes this to happen, but smokers tend to have plaque build-up in their mouths that can only be cleaned off by professional tools. This would not be a problem if a person regularly visits a dentist for teeth cleaning oral prophylaxis, a procedure that should be done every six months. This runs the risk of letting the bacteria in the plaque slowly eat away at the teeth, with some cases seeking help for the problem too late.
There is also a pronounced risk of the bone and support structure of the teeth being eaten away. Smoking is known to slowly kill off the cells in the gums, as well as impede upon natural regeneration in that area. This can be dangerous if the gums and bones that support the teeth are already compromised by bacteria, tooth decay, or other damage. The fibers that hold the teeth in place recede when exposed to tobacco, loosening the teeth. This may be a slow process, but that only makes it such that most people simply fail to notice the problem until it is too late and the damage has already been done.
However, it isn't just cigarette smoke that causes these problems. Even smoke-less products that are based on tobacco cause this damage, often in comparably similar degrees. According to several studies, both cigars and pipes cause the same cellular degeneration and damage rates as cigarette smoke. So far, all indications point to the problem being firmly rooted in the tobacco in the products and not necessarily the smoke itself.

The perfecr Diet

Keywords:Diet
Article Body:Just recently, a South American teenage model died of suspected malnutrition. That sad news topped the headlines and stunned the fashion industry. It happened just six months after her “size zero” sister starved herself to death on a diet of lettuce leaves and Diet Coke. Like her elder sister, preliminary indications suggest that she died suddenly of a heart attack, as a result of malnutrition. In response to these incidents, ultra-thin or size zero models were barred from participating in the Madrid Fashion Week 2006. Organizers of the fashion show for the Milan leg also followed suit.
These tragic deaths sparked an international debate about the ethics of using models who have “size zero” measurements. Size zero, in metric terms, is having the following vital statistics: 31.5 inches in bust size; 23 inches in waistline; and 34 inches in hip measure. Zero size is indeed alarming of one goes by the standard measurements. The average waistline of an eight year-old Caucasian is about 22 inches, making the size zero waistline of 23 inches incredible and dangerous at the same time.
These ultra skinny super models are idolized and imitated by thousands if not millions of women around the world. While not all of these super models starve themselves almost to the point of death, great care must be exercised in marketing their unique looks as the ideal for women to follow. One area of urgent action is the need to address myths and misconceptions about dieting. The proliferation of super model diets and other diet fads have left many women sick and unsightly. Many who were uninformed or ignorant about the science behind dieting have pursued their quest for physical perfection by following some supposedly “perfect diet program” that guarantees the attainment of a super model body. But is there really a perfect diet?
By definition, a diet is something you undertake for weight loss. A diet will require you to alter your food choices and consumption. Most of the diets have either lots of fibers, or steamed vegetables, and very little or practically no room for carbohydrates. Although it might make you feel light, it certainly induces a series of side effects. These may vary from severe head aches, to black outs, to low mental balances to even desperate carbohydrate cravings --- to something as serious as heart failure and death.
There are a lot of popular diet plans that currently being offered to weight-watchers and regular consumers. Research has shown that the majority of people who start on a diet plan tend to lose between 5 to 10% of their starting weight within 3 months of starting their plan. However, when the weight loss slows down, people tend to become disappointed with the slow progress of the plan and often abandon the diet and then regain the weight they had lost.
No single diet will work perfectly for everyone, but there are diet plans that might suit an individual. The way to pick a diet program that is right for you is to find a plan that contains the food you like and the one that reflects your lifestyle. These diet plans should be accompanied by regular exercise and adequate rest and sleep.
Everyone knows the keys to losing weight achieved through discipline and balance in all aspects of the diet and exercise program. It sounds simple enough, but in real life, losing those excess pounds can be very demanding on one's time and level of effort. Individual diet plans really depend on each person's health and weight loss goals. The best weight loss diet is one that will help you to eat less, eat healthy, and exercise more. The perfect diet should not end up in deprivation, starvation, or much worse, the loss of one's life. Losing the extra pounds and gaining more enjoyment in life are the real outcomes of a perfect diet.

How choosing the perfect Tanning salons?

0
Keywords:tanning bed lotions

Tanning can be such a chore – having to wait until certain periods of the day or the right time of year. It’s a hassle do you decide that it is in your best interest to go to a tanning salon but you don’t know what to look for and everyone seems to have their own opinion. All you really know is that you don’t want a bad spray on tan. The following are things you should know or find our or ask the establishments before you go and tan there.
Employee Certification
You read that right. In order to be licensed to tan you have to be accredited and take courses. There are currently four programs that someone can train under. If you find a tanning spa where the employees are either not certified or certified through someone other than these four then do not choose them. They are:
The National Tanning Training InstituteInternational Smart Tan NetworkSuntanning Association for EducationInternational Suntanning Education Institute
Each of these four, well established training centers offers certification to salon owners.
Continuing Education
New techniques and equipment are always being developed. What sort of ongoing training does the salon offer its employees, if any? It is important to keep up to date on the trends in the industry as well as the tools associated with it.
Warnings on Photosensitive Reactions
Your salon should be mindful of your health and have, by law, the need to have a list of medications, medical conditions and agents available that may lead a client into a photosensitive reaction that could occur when you expose your skin to the ultra violet rays. Your salon must discuss these issues with you.
Liability Insurance
Ask your salon if they have liability insurance. If they don’t then you should turn tail and run. Liability insurance protects you against any issues that may arise from the use of tanning in the salon otherwise if you get damaged you have no recourse.
Skin Type Determination
There are systems in place that can tell you what kind of type your skin is and this important to proper tanning as settings differ between light and dark tones, oily or dry skin etc. If they cannot tell your skin type they cannot guarantee a safe tanning experience.
Informed Consent
A salon that provides you with a list of things that could go wrong is a responsible salon. Though proven to be relatively safe there are still risks involved with tanning. The salon should have a form pointing them all out that you sign just in case something happens. This serves to inform you, the client, and protect the salon.
Promoting Proper Skin Care
Your skin is the base for a good tan. If your skin is one way or the other you can produce a bad tan. Your salon of choice should offer you information on what skin creams and lotions will be best for your skin type and to promote good tanning.
Over Exposure Program
A salon that is set up properly can design a tanning schedule based around your skin type. This ensures you that you will not over tan and will have a safer and more enjoyable experience as well as not wasting money.
Protective Eyewear
Is the salon you considering have protective eyewear available or demand that you use it? The regulations of tanning salons adhere to a strict policy of having people wear protective eyewear. Just say no to any tanning salon or spa that does not seem to care about your general well being.
Cleanliness
There are a great number of people coming and going and laying in the same tanning beds. Observe the business and take note of everything you see. Is there garbage on the floor? Are there sterilization chemicals to clean off tanning beds?
After the previous 10 questions have been asked should you worry about the price because putting a price tag on your health and beauty is silly.

Pills to lose weight

Keywords: Weight Loss Pills

Many of us want to lose its weight very quickly during the day, we shall use the pills to lose weight and exercise all kinds of sports, and in some cases deny ourselves from eating, so our weight lose.

Various changes in technology, society, and even the economy have largely affected the lifestyle of a lot of people. Everything seems to move in a hurry, nowadays, and breaks from work seem to last only for not more than 5 minutes each. Gone are the days when quality time was still spent to cook healthy food. Now, even eating is taken for granted and a lot of people rely on fast food as their daily source of nutrition. However, the beneficial contents in fast food is largely outweighed by the harmful ones which eventually leads to continuous weight gain and unmanageable excess fat. Because of the same heavy workload and hectic schedule, people are also deprived of the time they need to exercise or work out. A lot of individuals are then left with no other choice but to make use of medications just to shed their unwanted pounds. In response to this growing demand from consumers, companies and even some individuals suddenly came up with several weight loss pills that are now displayed in various drugstores and shops. Appetite suppressants, enzyme blockers, increased metabolic rates, lipase inhibitors, and fatty acid binders are just some of the most common terms associated with weight loss pills or medications. Aside from weight loss pills, other people avail of weight loss programs that focus on decreasing carbohydrate in-take in exchange of replacing it with other substances such as protein or fats. This means that each medication and program claim that they are the most effective in their field, a very common strategy used in advertising. However, according to a recent study done by The Weight Loss Institute, only a few and selected medications and programs are really telling the truth. Though some also have a high level of effectiveness, they also pose a big threat when it comes to their side effects. The main message here, therefore, is caution. Societal pressure and stigma make some people decide impulsively in choosing weight loss pills that they will take. Some, by word of mouth, learn about the effectiveness and benefits of certain weight loss medications and easily settle for that opinion as assurance. However, a person should also remember that when it comes to medications, the "deciding" part is not the only thing that matters. In fact, the getting-to-know-the-product part is considered more important and beneficial. Medications are known to cause fatal reactions and result to adverse side effects depending on the substances they contain and the general health condition of a person. Problems may arise either from the substances contained in the medications or, possibly, an inherent condition of a person such as allergic reactions to medications. Few are aware that the use of weight loss pills, though often viewed lightly because of the less serious health condition it is intended for, has still been reported to be associated with incidences that required emergency medical help and situations that are almost fatal due to side effects. The most common health problems reported to result from weight loss pills include diarrhea, vomiting, rash, and heart disease. Despite the many promises of weight loss pills for an easier way to lose excess weight, some even going to the extent of claiming that "eating more is the way to lose more weight", the natural way of losing weight which involves decrease in food intake and exercise or workout is still the much better option. This method requires no further tests to check for possible harm from side effects. It is also proven through time by numerous individuals who have also gone through it to be highly effective and completely healthy. This, however, requires more effort and discipline. Weight loss is not just a mere act of swallowing a pill but rather a really hard-earned goal. When a person finally achieves his or her desired weight, the satisfaction is greater and success is much sweeter. Losing weight naturally is not just shedding off extra pounds but gaining more good personal values....

You should walking everyday

0
That the task of walking a lot for the human body, and each person had to walk for exercise is beneficial and not tired at the same time, and maintain physical fitness and does not need tools to locality, and we can practice in any time and anywhere what we want. No one needs to be reminded that the fitness craze has arrived in full bloom and hints to us that it's not going away anytime soon. For the more, shall we say, "leisurely" type of person, this can cause a lot of guilt. "I'm going to start walking - next week." "How hard can it be to just walk for 30 minutes? I can do that. I just haven't had time." We've all heard (and sometimes used) one of these excuses. The one reason people don't do what they don't absolutely have to do is simple: They don't want to, and they don't have to. We grow up learning that death and taxes are the only two inevitables. Now they want us to exercise? Exercise is thought of by many people as a forced kind of event, and walking hovers near the top of the list in the "boring" category. "I don't want to just WALK! What's the point, where's the destination?" we ask. Well, just like everything else, there are loopholes here aplenty; it's up to the individual to make something so intolerably "boring" pretty interesting. It's also imperative to your health that you rethink that statement and re-prioritize your life. Just think of it this way: Do you place a high enough priority on yourself and your well-being? It never hurts to remind yourself of the health benefits you'd gain by walking regularly. It's true - you will not notice these long-term benefits right away, you will notice these things: You'll have more energy. You'll sleep better. You'll be fitter. And you'll be happier. Still not enough? OK. On those days you really can't seem to set aside a half hour for a walk, you CAN walk. Find shorter segments of time where walking naturally fits into your schedule. If you're used to driving everywhere, this may take a little rethinking. But consider this: If you have a short errand to do, a meeting to attend, or a child to pick up, walk. If you're headed to see a movie, to worship, to a game, walk. Although it may take a few minutes longer than normal, remind yourself of your efficient use of time: you're actually accomplishing several things at once. (This is a mental trick, but it works.) Look, if our ancestors survived the Ice Age, it won't kill you to walk in the rain. In our age of climate control and central air, we like our environment to remain comfortable at all times. But, come on, how "boring" is that? Another trick is to think of walking as a basic human need, like sleep, shelter, and food. Then, after you complete your 30 minutes, reward yourself with any of the other three needs. Walk back home and go in the kitchen. The key is to never demand too much from yourself. So what if the dishes aren't done? Do them later. You'll live longer and more healthfully if you walk instead of do the dishes! And doctors don't prescribe doing the laundry a certain amount of times during the week. These are the "blocks" you put in front of yourself that keep you from walking. It certainly isn't easy to change our priorities in today's hectic world, but it's harder to begin "getting healthy" when it's a little too late - and the house is spotless....
